Tight bladder neck

What is tight bladder neck?

Tight Bladder neck is a functional obstruction caused by abnormal opening of the bladder neck during the voiding phase of micturition. Symptoms including voiding symptoms (slow urinary flow, intermittent stream, incomplete bladder emptying), storage symptoms (frequency, urgency, urgency incontinence, nocturia), and some patients experience pelvic pain and discomfort.

The diagnosis can be made with detailed clinical examination, urine flow test ,videourodynamic studies (which demonstrates elevated voiding pressures with low flow) and sometimes if necessary a flexible cystoscopy.

Treatment options include conservative management with watchful waiting, medication (a-blockers),and surgical intervention.
